The Five Questions Growers Ask Me Most
A Season on the Advisory Line
Since our advisory hotline opened, the same handful of questions come up again and again. That’s a good thing — it tells me where the real uncertainty is. Here are the five I hear most.
The Questions
None of these have a one-size answer, but the thinking behind each one travels well from field to field.
- “What plant population should I aim for?” — start with the label, then adjust for your soil and water
- “Do I really need seed treatment?” — usually yes where soil pests are active
- “Why is my stand uneven?” — nine times in ten it’s planting depth or moisture
- “When do I irrigate for pollination?” — before the crop tells you it’s thirsty
- “Can I save this seed for next year?” — with hybrids, no
Keep Asking
The growers who call early and often are rarely the ones with disasters. A two-minute question at the right moment saves a great deal later.
